Today I received a claims report for my 2 1/2 day stay at the hospital. The total charge for everything was, I will round it up, $16,000.00. My lovely insurance company only paid $4400.00 because the hospital Randy took my to is not contracted with them. What the HE**! It's not like he was thinking about this at the time, and why did they not tell him that when he brought me there? They could have stabilized me then transported me to a participating hospital. So now I have an $11,000.00 bill that we need to pay. How are we going to do that? We have no extra money each month, well I guess we could if we ate hotdogs for the next 20 years. I'm not going to do that, they should have told Randy and then trasfered me. I don't know what we are going to do, Randy is going to hit the roof when he hears this.
I called the insurance company and they said because the hospital isn't contracted with them they don't take deductions off the bill. What? Shouldn't every ER be covered?

Ah honey, you had me at your title! I have to admit I read, "I hate insurance companies" and chuckled imagining some of my own diatribes.
I'm so sorry that they're sticking you with this bill. I know that most insurance companies cannot be reasoned with. Two thoughts: if you know a friend who is a lawyer, try sending a letter stating your case on legal letterhead (It's amazing how much that helps!); or appeal to the hospital itself and see what arrangements/deductions it will arrange. The hospital here has a "bridges" program that will actually decrease your bill - of course, they don't talk about it much!

I personally don't think that Hot Dogs are the answer I personally live off Top Roman if needed! you could totally go postal on them I will help! JK, I am sorry that you are going through this but look on the bright side maybe you could sue them and instead of 11,000 back you could get a Million for emotional stress. I am not as good as Maraiya she always has all the answer that smart neighbor I have,
